How does Credelio for Cats work?

Offered by Elanco, Credelio Blue for Cats is formulated with lotilaner as its key ingredient. Lotilaner is an ectoparasiticide, meaning it kills external parasites. After administration, it mixes into the cat’s bloodstream. Lotilaner inhibits insects and acarine gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-gated chloride channels. This helps in blocking the transfer of chloride ions across the cell membranes, resulting in uncontrolled neuromuscular activity that in turn leads to the death of insects and acarines. When fleas and ticks feed on your cat, they ingest lotilaner, leading to rapid elimination.

How fast does Credelio work?

Credelio starts to kill fleas within just 6 hours of administration. It has demonstrated 98% effectiveness against fleas within 12 hours and over 97% effectiveness against ticks after 72 hours of administration. When administered regularly every month, Credelio 48 mg for Cats offers up to a month of protection against fleas and ticks.

Important notes:

Lotilaner is a member of the isoxazoline class. This class has been associated with neurologic adverse reactions, including tremors, ataxia, and seizures. Seizures have been reported even in cats without a history of seizures. Use with caution in cats with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders.
The safe use of Credelio in breeding, pregnant, or lactating cats has not been established.
The effectiveness of Credelio Cat against black-legged ticks in kittens less than 6 months of age has not been evaluated.
