As dog parents, we’d always want our beloved canine companions to remain with us for the longest time. However, Guinness World Records has stripped the ‘oldest dog ever’ title from Bobi, a Portuguese Mastiff who died in October 2023, following an investigation that found insufficient evidence of the fact that he lived for 31 years.

Max was a Beagle, Dachshund, and Terrier mix from Louisiana, US, who lived to be 29 years and 282 days old, making him the oldest dog in history. Born on August 9, 1983, he passed away in May 2013, just months before his 30th birthday, narrowly missing the official record title. Adopted by a sugar cane farmer in 1983, Max’s human parent attributed his long life to a simple diet of dry dog food. In his final years, he suffered only from mild arthritis and cataracts before dying of a seizure caused by old age.

Unfortunately, it had to be euthanized in 1939 at the age of 29 years and 5 months.

His death was attributed to natural causes or organ failure associated with old age.
