Question from
Debbie Foster
which do you recommend that I use for pets that like to go to the lake,K9 advantix II or frontline plus?
Our Vet Says:
Dear Debbie,
Both products you
mentioned are topical ones. Both products are water resistant after they are dry
and spread all over the skin. But the problem with spot on treatments is that
their efficiency is decreased by frequent water immersion. They also have to be
allowed to dry off naturally after the application and water immersion should be
avoided in the first two days after treatment. Both products are good, they will
protect your dogs against all stages of fleas and ticks. Bayer, the manufacturer
of Advantix II, claims that this product has also repellent action against
ticks, mosquitoes and sand flies.
I would like to recommend following
the manufacturer’s guidelines for treatment, and if your dogs swim more than
twice –three times a week to reduce the time interval between treatments to
three weeks during the period when swimming is frequent. Please bear in mind
that attachments of ticks can be seen even in protected dogs therefore
immunizations against Lyme disease are recommended.
