Question from Diane

Chaz

German Shepherd Mix, age 9

Although my dog Chaz is 9 years old, he is still a puppy at heart. Recently he developed a problem. He continuously passes gas. I thought he may have become sensitive to the ingredients in the dog food, so I slowly switched brands and eliminated questionable ingredients. I also noticed that his back legs swell, especially after exercising. I don’t know if the two are related, but they started about the same time. Needless to say, the change in diet has not improved the situation. Any ideas?

Our Vet Says:

It is very difficult to give any advice. Your dog is a senior dog and in my opinion you need to consult a vet and maybe get some para clinic exams done. In the meantime you can try to administer ½ tablet of active charcoal every day to reduce digestive problems.

I do shampoo her with flea shampoo that I got when she did have fleas a year ago, and I did try switching to a conditioning shampoo for a while with no help. I bathe her about every 2 weeks because after a week she starts to stink.. strong dog odor, and after a week her scratching and chewing get...?
