Question from Joan Edwards

KALA HAS A LEVEL 3 HEART MURMUR, SHE RECENTLY HAS STARTED COUGHING BEIRFLY IN THE MORNING AND WHEN SHE DRINKS WATER. WE HAVE RULED OUT HEARTWORM AND THE VET SAYS HER LUNGS ARE CLEAR. WE BELIEVE IT IS COLLAPSING TRACHEA. MY QUESTION IS THIS MANAGEABLE? OR COULD THIS CONTRIBUTE TO A PREMATURE DEATH? I GET CONFLICTING ANSWERS ON THE NET. HAVE YOU SEEN THIS AND WHAT ARE SOME STATASTICS ON THIS CONDITION? THANK YOU

Our Vet Says:

Heart disease can be cause of cough when dogs start to do exercise (work, play, etc ). Your dog is a senior dog and this is seen commonly in senior dogs. In my opinion, please keep in mind that I have not examined your dog, the cough is caused due to his heart problem but with treatment you can keep the cough under control. Cardiac disease can cause premature death but can be managed with good treatment.

Muffy was a rescue from a puppy mill at age 1. We’ve overcome many problems, but now we have 2 I’m not sure how to fix. she itches and chews all the time like she has fleas, but there are no fleas. I do shampoo her with flea shampoo that I got when she did have fleas a year ago, and I did try switching to a conditioning shampoo for a while with no help. I bathe her about every 2 weeks because after a week she starts to stink.. strong dog odor, and after a week her scratching and chewing get...?
