Pet medications - Ask a vet a question about your dog or cat

Question from Christine Norberg

I bought fiproguard plus, ? spelling. I do not have the box in front of me. The pet store was out of frontline and my cats were overdue for tick and flea treatment. I chose this brand because when i read thebox it was the same main ingredients as frontline. I applied it a week ago. My cat is coming in the house daily with numerous ticks on him. I am not sure what is safe to use on him after already treating him with a flea and tick product. Do you have any suggestion? I do not want my pet to get sick from too much medication.

Our Vet Says:

Unfortunately all the medicines for ticks are spot on medicine are the same as the product you applied. All fleas and tick product should be applied every month. If the level of infestation is high you can apply after 3 weeks but don’t apply earlier then 3 weeks. The product which you applied has the same active ingredient as Frontline Plus.
My advice is to use good product for fleas and ticks prevention and please read the leaflet enclosed with the product.

Question of the Month

Congratulations to the winner of this month's Question of the Month, cheryl d. who wins $100 for the following question:

My Maddy is 6 years old and a HUGE girl -170 lbs. and the sweetest girl in my world! Trouble is... She is miserable with the itching. I been to the vet and tried changing her food to no beef, chicken, or pork. I also had her on allergy pills that cost $140 a month. I simply can’t afford that plus the expensive dog food, plus continuous yard treatments, etc. can you recommend a flea pill that is affordable? She is also on prion for incontinence. Will it affect that medication too? Thank ...?
