It is indeed freezing outside! There are two extreme weather conditions when you cannot let your pet go outside, one is extreme heat and the other is chilly. We are obviously facing the latter one currently. So, is your canine trapped in home and is bored almost to death? Well, there might be some entertaining exercises that stimulate dog’s mental as well as physical abilities. You can use the following 5 fun tips to keep your furry friends entertained indoors!
First and foremost- Figure out your pooch’s preferences!
It is unsaid that summer is the time totally unsuitable and unhealthy for pets to walk or play when the sun is high. However when we talk about winter, or rather snow, some large breed dogs love to plowing through the snow. If your tyke prefers to play in snow then let him spend 30-40 minutes exploring the white cover. This play time may exhaust him completely. Make sure you take care of his paws though.
Games are always fun- Try hide and seek
You all must have tried hiding your pet’s treats and it must have been a great experience. Do you want to take that to another level? Hide your dog’s treat and ask him to find it and while he begins his search, you go and hide yourself. When he returns having treat in his mouth, you’ll be nowhere to be seen and then the search for you would begin. A few rounds of this hide & seek will help your dog stay fit physically and mentally.
This can be a learning season- Scan your neighborhood for dog clubs or classes
Sign your furry friend for indoor game sessions at a dog club. You may also try getting him enrolled in swimming classes if he loves water. These physical exercises may help your canine stay in ship and also provide mental stimulation with various games at the club.
Nose exercises- Make his meals exciting
Dogs are known for their sharp smelling senses. You may try some great smell sharpening exercises. You could try hiding his bowl of food or create obstacles for him to reach his food bowl at his meal times. Or fill his food in a kong wobbler, a box, or a buster ball. This may add extra entertainment to your pet’s meal and he may love the food puzzles too.
Real workout- Use a treadmill for keeping your pets fit
There are treadmills specially made for dogs. You may use that to have your dog run and shed weight indoors when the climate does not favor you. However if you don’t want to spend on it then you can also use your treadmill and teach your pets to walk and run on it. In that case you need to start with a slow walk and use treats to appreciate his efforts. After a few days of walking you may teach him to jog and continue the treating technique. If everything goes well and your pooch enjoys this workout session, then you may go ahead and make it a regular thing.
