Question from
James W. Parrent
Roudy
German Shepherd, age
2
My dog gets skin rash, bumps and looses his hair in the summer. Itook him to the vet but he didnt get any better. Do you have any ideas? Thank You, Jim
ps, i give him regular baths in the summer.
Our Vet Says:
One of the major reasons for skin problems in summer is fleas, especially if
there is an infestation. Other common causes are Atopic dermatitis, mange,
Demodectic mange, bacterial infection, hypothyroidism, Cushing’s syndrome.
Sometimes the clinical exam isn’t enough to reach a diagnosis and a para-clinic
exam (culture of skin scraping, or microscopic exam) may be required. My
advice is to administer a good product for fleas and ticks protection like
Frontline Plus, K9Advantix or K9AdvantixII every month and administer treatment
for internal parasites every 3 months. You can also start consider administering
a diet especially formulated for sensitive skin as this can be helpful.
If your dog still continues to have problems, let me know and I will try to help
you.
